Barton Creek Neighborhood Guide


Barton Creek is one of the larger and older neighborhoods in Austin. Some of the homes date back to the start of the 20th Century, others to the 1920s, and many are quite large as well as old. About two-thirds of the area is greenspace, and the neighborhood is surrounded by the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Zilker Park, Austin's favorite city park. Barton Creek Square Mall is nearby with its luxury stores and restaurants, and students have access to top-rated schools.

Barton Creek is a quiet, safe, upscale neighborhood in west Austin where wealthy Austinites and retirees shop, dine, and enjoy nature. There are multiple dining and nightlife options along the borders of the neighborhood. Barton Creek Square Mall and Westbank Market are not far, with high-end stores and more restaurants. And the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Zilker Park and close by with hiking and biking trails.

The neighborhood is close to major thoroughfares MoPac, Southwest Pkwy., and Bee Caves Rd., and Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin are a short drive away. There's not much in the way of public transportation here, so most residents drive.

Amenities here complement the upscale lifestyle. There are large, luxury homes, designed and landscaped to complement the local scenery, top-rated public and private schools, and a country club resort with several golf courses.

Residents here include young professionals, families, and retirees. The schools are among the best in the state. Housing is pricey like many parts of west Austin, Barton Creek is one of the most livable neighborhoods in town.
