Features

Georgian Acres is a suburban neighborhood that is conveniently located close to I-35 as well as Lamar Blvd. and Hwy. 183, two major local routes. The neighborhood started out in the 1800s as a farming area known as Fiskville; some remnants of that time still remain, including the Fiskville Cemetery and a mid-Nineteenth Century house.

The neighborhood is fairly centrally located, not too far from downtown and south Austin, but also not that far from north Austin and even Round Rock. There are also many public bus lines passing through the area. However the area does get congested and there can be long lines in the local stores.

There are many shopping centers and restaurants nearby the area, including some decent ethnic and casual restaurants, and fast food places.  There is some green space in the area at Payton Gin Park. There is also the Marchesa Hall & Theater, which has movie screenings and live performances.

Homes here are modest in size but tend to be inexpensive, so the bulk of the neighborhood population is young families. There are also some longtime residents of the neighborhood. The residents are generally friendly and form some close-knit communities.

Although the neighborhood has a reputation for high crime, this varies among different sections of the neighborhood. In fact there is a noticeable difference in the quality of life among different sections and even between adjacent blocks, so prospective residents need to be selective and careful when choosing a place.
