About 20 miles northwest of Austin, Hudson Bend is a community surrounded on three sides by Lake Travis. As you might expect, water sports are popular among the residents. Many of the homes have private marinas, and the neighborhood also has marinas for residents' use. People here mostly either are retirees or work in Austin. The population spans a wide range of socioeconomic classes: mobile home parks share the community with multimillion-dollar waterfront properties.

Hudson Bend is a six-square-mile penninsula jutting out into Lake Travis. Named for Wiley Hudson, whose family first settled in the area in the 1850s, it was a ranching and farming community until the mid-twentieth century. Today, Hudson Bend is residential and has over 1000 homes and about 2,500 residents in its 4,000 acres. The neighborhood is about a half hour drive to central Austin and also offer easy access to the high-technology employers in northwest Austin.
Many residents choose to live in Hudson Bend because of a love of nature and the water. The lake offers numerous opportunities for swimming, windsurfing, water sailing and skiing, as well as camping, picnicking, and fishing.
In addition to the natural attractions offered by the lake, several state and county parks are just a short car or boat ride away. Nearby Mansfield Dam Park is one of
the most popular boat launch points; its seventy acres also contains picnic areas, children’s play areas, dive stairs and platforms, and nature
trails.
The population of Hudson Bend is about half married couples and, compared to the rest of Austin, is relatively mature and affluent.
