Lakeway Neighborhood Guide

Lakeway is a residential area on Lake Travis, about 25 miles northwest of Austin. Residents consist of young professional families, retirees, and weekend second-homers who enjoy the views and water-related recreation opportunities.

The entire neighborhood has either direct access to the lake or a short commute to reach it. Residents also have access to shopping and dining at the Hill Country Galleria and other businesses and restaurants in the area. Although the area is a fair distance from Austin, it is a straightforward drive on Hwy. 71, a major west Austin thoroughfare.

Once a small, sparsely populated retirement town, Lakeway has become a rapidly growing community that includes professional singles and families who work in Austin and want to get away on the weekends. Although effectively an Austin suburb, Lakeway is actually a separate city, with its own city council and police and emergency departments.

Lakeway is a collection of about 20 neighborhoods, each with a different character and set of amenities. Most have homes with 3 or more bedrooms and bathrooms. Prices range from the low $200K range for homes in the hill country to $1 million and up for luxury homes on the lake.

Most residents are attracted to Lakeway for its proximity to the lake. Lakeway has three marinas for residents' use and offers ample opportunities for boating and fishing. The area also has abundant green space including the 64-acre Lakeway City Park. The park offers a beach, play area, picnic area, basketball and volleyball courts, and hiking trails.

Nearby is the Hill Country Galleria, an upscale mall for shopping and dining. There are also many local restaurants and businesses in the area.
