Summary
West Congress is a small, ethnic, residential neighborhood bordering Hwy. 71 to the north. Many modest, ranch-style homes and apartment complexes are here. Also many casual restaurants. The neighborhood is popular among families and college students.
Features
West Congress is small neighborhood of about 3,000 tucked in between three major local thoroughfares: South Congress Ave., South First St., and Hwy. 71. It is a place for individuals and families seeking a quiet, laid-back, live-and-let-live place to call home.
There are a lot of young couples and families here. There are also a lot of St. Edward's University students, attracted by the neighborhood's proximity to the campus and by the many apartment complexes with low rents. There's not a strong sense of community, but at the same time the residents tend to be low-key and tolerant.
The neighborhood is close to SoCo and downtown, but far enough away so there's a bit less traffic and bustle. Getting around is convenient, with multiple public bus routes running through the neighborhood.
There are many casual dining places here, including places to get tacos.
